Mission:
M01 - The Hooke
Location: Bridge, USS Hooke
Timeline: Present
Narvo was able to pilot the ship into the asteroid field without too many difficulties, though he wasn't all that experienced just yet. Narvo knew it would take some time getting used to piloting a starship especially in a restricted area such as this asteroid field. Once they were far enough inside he slowed the ship quite a bit and relied more heavily on the thrusters to keep them where they needed to be.
"Captain," Shral began to say, "I'm not detecting any threats in the area. There is a signal coming from the asteroid directly in front of us. It appears that some sort of outpost was constructed there, though given the amount of interference it'll take some time to compensate."
"I'm working on that Captain," Zotras added from the operations station.
James leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms, "Take your time." He answered then the turbo lift door behind the bridge opened up. James turned and saw the science chief stepping out onto the bridge.
Rhys took up his position on the bridge, though in most instances the science station was left vacant unless there was need for a science officer to be there. He'd already been brought up to speed on the situation, "I heard there was an incident down on the planet." He pointed out calmly. "I'm assuming the away team is okay?"
"Yeah," James replied. "We were able to establish communications. It seems that the artifact activated along with a power generator. The two must have been how the thrusters on the asteroid activated."
"Interesting," Rhys said.
Narvo continued to look forward, "Clearly the Novans didn't put the thrusters on the asteroid, much less would they have known about the thrusters in the first place."
"No doubt," Zotras added from his station. "There appears to be a small substation down on the asteroid. It's exposed to space and given all the interference an away team wouldn't be advisable Captain. However, I may be able to link up the computer to its core."
James nodded, "Are there any surprises in the area?"
Shral checked his readouts, "No Captain. It appears as if there aren't any weapons in the area. Though, I'm detecting another asteroid with thrusters on it. We may want to eliminate that before it becomes a problem."
"That much debris may be too much for the deflectors, we're already taxing them," Zotras told the rest of the bridge crew. "I would recommend we try to just disable the thrusters themselves."
"We may be able to block any signals being sent from the station to the asteroid," Rhys suggested. "That would be the best course of action assuming you can't get a target lock on the thrusters themselves." He added while waiting for any data they may need him to analyze from the science station.
"Do it," James said.
Rhys set to work finding the frequency that the thrusters sensors worked on. Once he'd gathered that information it was a matter of blocking the frequency. "Done." He added, "I would still stand by just in case something else happens that is unexpected."
James couldn't agree more, but he was still under the impression that he'd been right all along and they did run into something that complicated the mission. These things were never easy in the first place, "Are you ready to transmit the computer data?" He asked Lieutenant Lazol.
"Yes Captain," Zotras replied. "It won't take an exceptionally long time to take care of it either." He was talking while working and soon the transmission had started. He watched the bar increase on his readout, "Anything crazy happening?" The El-Aurian asked the others.
"Nothing so far," Shral said. He was growing somewhat anxious by the second while sitting there waiting for something to happen. When nothing happened, however, Shral began to relax just a little bit. He was also monitoring the progress meter on his screen. When it hit one hundred percent he spoke up once more, "Captain I recommend we go back to the planet before we begin analyzing this information."
"Oh, I agree don't worry." James told the Lieutenant, "Ensign return course please."
"Aye sir," Narvo answered. He activated the thrusters as he needed to until the ship had cleared the field, once that had happened Narvo set full impulse until he was able to get the ship into a standard orbit. "We're all set Captain."
James grinned, "Excellent, have you started to analyze the information?"
Rhys nodded, "It'll take me some time, but yes Captain I'm reviewing it now."
Shral grinned, "The away team is trying to contact the ship Captain, they may have found something." He pointed out while opening the channel at the same time. The viewer changed from the image of Terra Nova to Commander Preston standing there. Shral felt a sense of relief when he saw her, and the rest of the away team in the background.
=/\="Hello Captain," Freya said on the viewer she had a slight smile on her face. "We're no longer inside the ruins, though right now we're trying to figure out how to disable the power generator and artifact for good. Oh, and Ensign Roma is gathering the last bit of the glyphs we found to translate once she's back on the ship."=/\=
"Excellent," James replied. "Do you have anything else?"
=/\="Yes Captain," Freya told him. "We took a core sample while waiting for you to return to standard orbit. Initial indications tell us that the planet has been struck by an asteroid on at least three separate occasions. The most recent being when the Novans first came to the planet."=/\=
"Three times?" Rhys repeated and swallowed hard. "Commander how much damage was done to the planet the first two times?"
=/\="Emma Logan is working that out right now," Freya told the Lieutenant, "But we believe the events to be pretty severe both times. Based on some of the glyphs it looks like one of the strikes may have been enough to cause a massive extinction level event."=/\=
James nodded, "I look forward to your return and report Commander."
=/\="Emma has requested to come aboard so that she may help us analyze the data she's about to send. They don't have the facilities to analyze this quickly." Freya added.=/\=
"Of course," James answered. "I also believe it's time for our daughters to return to the planet, I'm sure both Sam and you agree?" He asked.
=/\="I'll let Counselor Choyi know," Freya replied. "Commander Preston out."=/\=
James watched the screen blink out and the planet return to the viewer. "Sounds like we've got a lot of information to parse through. Will you need any assistance Lieutenant? Besides Ms. Logan and the rest of your science team?"
Rhys was already standing, "I think we've got it handled. However, if I need any help I'll make sure to contact you, I know you're dying to put that science brain to good use sir." He grinned as he said it. Rhys could see the Captain seemed amused, but didn't elaborate further. He simply departed from the bridge in order to go make sure everything was set up for the next part.
