Mission:
M01 - The Hooke
Location: Bridge, USS Hooke
Timeline: Present
James received word that the ship was now officially on its own power and ready for departure. He'd been in his office doing the finishing touches when one of the ship's engineers contacted him to inform him of that. James went to the bridge to find his bridge team already getting into place. "You guys work fast." He commented before sitting down in the middle chair. This wasn't the first time he'd occupied that chair, but it was his first time aboard his own ship.
Narvo had only just arrived on board the Hooke, this was the first time he'd sat at the helm on board a starship that wasn't the training ship. He was somewhat nervous. "Thrusters are online," He managed to say after swallowing a little.
"Good, Ensign." James told his helmsman, "Have departments reported in yet?"
Freya hadn't had the opportunity to speak to the ship's Captain just yet. Now she was sitting next to him in her chair, "Departmental reports have been made, the shore power has been severed, we have permission to depart the drydock slip when we're ready Captain."
"Ops?" James asked.
Sam stood at the back of the bridge, he was used to being in the front of the bridge so it was a little awkward for him. "Green across the board Captain," He answered. There wasn't anything important to add, "The personnel who are boarding the ship have all reported aboard. We have some additional personnel who will be coming aboard once we're in orbit of Earth."
Shral looked from the Lieutenant across from him, down toward the center of the bridge. "All weapons and defensive systems are on standby Captain. Deflector will activate once we've departed the drydock slip."
James nodded, "Excellent," He said. "Set restricted maneuvering."
Freya nodded, "Aye sir," She said while looking toward the Captain. She looked forward to the Ensign sitting at the helm, "Set restricted maneuvering then activate thruster controls. Notify us when we've cleared the drydock slip."
"Understood," Narvo answered. The unjoined Trill officer began working toward what had been ordered. Once he was on thruster control only he propelled the ship forward. The main viewer above his head reflected what the ship was doing as the drydock slip slowly faded away from them. He shifted the main viewer with his off hand so that they were looking through the aft viewer. The ship was soon clear of the drydock slip and Narvo flipped the screen back to where it had been.
"We're clear sir," Narvo remarked without saying another word.
Freya looked at James, "Starfleet has issued orders for us to orbit Earth while we pick up the remainder of the crew that is coming aboard. You have a meeting with Starfleet via subspace where I'm assuming you'll receive the orders for the ship."
"I'm surprised the Admiral isn't just coming on board," Sam remarked. "They must be busy down there or something."
"Maybe," Shral replied. "Deflector systems are active and on standby Captain."
James listened to each of his bridge officers as they spoke. "How many personnel are left to come aboard?"
It was Sam that answered him, "Around fifty sir." Sam was looking at his console when he replied. "Engineering will be ready to go by then, I think they were still trying to get a few of the subsystems online before departure."
James was rather surprised that the Admiral didn't beam up to the ship as well, though he assumed it shouldn't be all that surprising. They were certainly busy, "Are the transporter systems online?"
"Yes Captain," Sam answered. "That was one of the first priorities once I got on board. It shouldn't take long to get those people on board with shuttles and the transporter system."
"Keep me updated." James told the Lieutenant.
"What do you think they'll have us doing Captain?" Freya asked the Captain. She was genuinely curious about it.
"I don't know," James answered honestly. "I doubt it's anything crazy and they may decide to just do a shakedown cruise and send us to the shakedown range instead of giving us a real world mission."
Freya nodded and looked around, for the most part the crew was young and inexperienced. She couldn't think of a time where Starfleet had done that before now, and found it somewhat strange. Perhaps even over ten years later Starfleet was still having a manning problem. "Well I suppose we'll find out what we?"
James nodded, "Did everyone get on board without issue?" He asked.
Shral nodded, "I didn't like coming aboard on a shuttle," He answered, "But my belongings are all on board."
"I think my daughter is still trying to arrange her bedroom," Sam answered. "Quarters are a bit small with that divider being there, but at least she has some privacy. And they are much bigger than what was on the Eisenhower."
Freya nodded, "Right." She answered. "Charlotte liked seeing the amount of space she has on board. I think we were both kind of surprised by that, and I even had the opportunity to talk to my husband via subspace for a bit."
Narvo didn't look away from his console, he was studying it, "I got on board without issue sir. My roommate isn't on board yet, I think he's coming on board directly from Earth."
James nodded as he listened to each of his officers, "I think there are only three children on board. My daughter, and your daughters," He said while indicating both Sam and Freya. "I don't know if that'll change or not, but for the time being that's how it is."
Sam shrugged, "There weren't any other than Paige on the Eisenhower."
"Oh wow," Freya replied. "Well, that'll make school interesting. Do we know if there will be a teacher on board Captain?"
"I think that part will still be via subspace, I haven't had the opportunity to talk to Starfleet about it just yet. But, there is a small space designated as the ship's classroom. So even if it is via subspace they'll have a place to go," He added.
"Sir," Sam said suddenly, "I'm receiving a subspace message from Starfleet Headquarters for you. It's probably the Admiral with our orders," He added while looking up.
James nodded, "Well, if you don't mind." He looked at Freya, "You've got the bridge Commander."
"Understood sir," Freya answered.
James then proceeded to get up and head toward his ready room, "I'll take it in my office." He indicated then vanished from the bridge.
