Mission:
M02 - The Sixteenth Rule
Location: Executive Officer's Office, USS Hooke
Timeline: Present
Freya had a great deal of work to do, despite the fact that she'd just ended the subspace call with her husband only moments earlier. She was glad he was doing well, and even talked about her husband calling their daughter at some point because Charlotte was desperately missing her father at the moment. Even if Charlotte didn't say anything about it, Freya could tell. After that conversation it was back to work. Only for a short time, however, before the chime at her door alerted her to someone being there.
"You may enter please." Freya replied.
Lieutenant Nuri Varrom entered with a warm smile on her face, and a soft glow about her features. She sat down almost immediately after entering the office, "You know Commander I heard you'd been promoted but I didn't know you'd been assigned to second in command of a starship."
Freya's eyes lit up almost immediately it had been a few years since she saw the diplomat recalling that they'd met on outpost nineteen while Nuri was heading to a diplomatic conference nearby. "You know, I had been told it was you, but I didn't put two and two together until seeing you. I'm so sorry, how have you been?"
Nuri laughed a little bit, "I'm well. How's Blake and Charlotte doing?" She asked the Exec.
Freya grinned, "Blake was promoted he's serving as Executive Officer on the Legaspi," She told Nuri, "Charlotte is here with me on the Hooke. I actually just got off a call with Blake, their ship is preparing to conduct a survey mission somewhere though he didn't go into details. He's supposed to be calling Charlotte later."
Nuri frowned, "Sorry that Starfleet separated you two," She said. "Perhaps that's why I've always been afraid to get married and have children of my own. Not that I've not experienced that anyway," One of Nuri's previous hosts had children though she obviously never spoke to any of them due to Trill taboo and all that. She didn't want to think too much about that, "I'm glad they're both well. Perhaps we can get lunch or something sometime when I'm not busy, the Ferengi and Cardassians haven't arrived yet have they?"
"Nope," Freya told her with a shake of her head, "They've not arrived yet. Lunch does sound wonderful, I'm sure Charlotte would love getting to see her favorite Trill officer."
Nuri laughed slightly, "I'm still the only Trill she knows aren't I?"
"Yep," Freya replied with a laugh of her own. "So I heard something," Her cheery attitude had transformed to something a bit more serious. "I heard Doctor Sebastian Hayes is quite the character and he's here with you?"
Nuri furrowed her brow as her voice lowered almost to a harsh whisper, "Yeah." She answered. Nuri wasn't fond of Doctor Hayes and she'd protested when her Commanding Officer told her Sebastian would be coming along with them. He was absolutely useless at the diplomatic corps and Nuri had assumed Starfleet was trying to force him to resign. "Just take him along Lieutenant, he'll be fine... You'll be fine... Let us have a break from him." She mocked her Captain for a moment.
Freya frowned, "Does he do anything at all?" She asked.
Nuri shook her head, "Nope." She answered, "Officially he's supposed to provide basic medical care whenever we need it. Sometimes the diplomatic corps will send him with the excuse of the team needing basic medical needs while they are gone. However, in a lot of cases the place the diplomats are going to ends up simply being a ship or station with a full medical staff.
"They don't like him there, and I think the Captain had protested him being drummed into the diplomatic corps in the first place. They did it so they could keep a close eye on him rather than sending him to some dead end station out in the middle of God only knows where," Nuri concluded with a huff. "He makes both Lieutenant Kirk and myself really nervous. And, Kirk is still learning how to be a diplomat, this is the last thing she needs."
Freya was still frowning as Nuri explained the situation to her, "So they sent him here so they didn't have to deal with him for a little bit. I don't understand why Starfleet Medical didn't kick him to the curb," She said.
"They took pity on him," Nuri replied, "It's really as simple as that." She said sourly. "His wife was dead, though there were quiet whisperings that he'd been involved in that death. I also think they're terrified of what he might be capable of if he's removed from Starfleet. They simply lacked enough evidence to send him to a penal colony and be rid of him entirely, but the man is dangerous." She huffed again, "The way he's been watching Miley the entire trip is quite creepy too."
Freya raised a brow, "What do you mean?"
Nuri sighed, "Well just so you know, Miley and I are somewhat involved with each other. It's been on and off for about a month and right now we're on. Doctor Hayes seems obsessed with our relationship, in particular he seems obsessed with Miley. It's just weird."
Freya nodded, "All the more reason to keep an eye on him." She confirmed. "Doctor Hayashi is keenly aware of who Doctor Hayes is. She was at his medical review board along with several other students when she was in medical school, she warned us about his methods. Our security chief is already all over it," Freya mentioned.
"Good," Nuri answered. She didn't like the idea of that man having free reign of the ship, "Miley and I are sharing quarters right now. Lack of space and we sort of requested it so I'll be able to keep an eye on her, make sure he doesn't do anything rash. How closely is security going to be watching him?"
Freya shrugged, "Well they can't be on top of him unless he does something illegal so for now we just have the computer tracking his movements. Security is monitoring information provided by the computer, though obviously we can't invade his privacy. We can only monitor him and we can't keep him out of sickbay if he chooses to go there. I'm sure Doctor Hayashi is real pleased with that part."
"I'm sure," Nuri said and stood up. "Let me know when you're available for lunch. I probably should go get studying my notes for this conference."
Freya stood up as well, "It was nice seeing you again. I'm available for lunch at any time." She said and watched the Lieutenant leave. Then Freya made a point to notate the conversation and send it off to security for their review, that was a bit strange and may be enough to keep a far closer eye on him.
