Mission:
M02 - The Sixteenth Rule
Location: Various Corridors, USS Hooke
Timeline: Present
Braxx had carefully arranged for each of the diplomatic team members and the two negotiating teams to have guest or VIP quarters. It was a good thing he'd been experienced in that area due to having only come aboard less than twenty-four hours earlier. Now, somehow he had been tasked with escorting Doctor Sebastian Hayes to his quarters. How had Commander Bancroft put it? He questioned himself.
'Sebastian is potentially a very dangerous man, I need you to make sure he gets to his quarters without too much trouble. Don't worry security will be keeping a close eye on him from here on out...'
It had been something like that, something along those lines. The Bolian warrant officer shivered slightly at the thought, why was he on board then if this man was potentially a threat. He couldn't think of any reason to allow this man here other than being with the diplomatic team where he seemingly served little purpose anyway. As soon as the transporter room had been filled with the three members of the diplomatic team Braxx had been there waiting for Sebastian, Miley had already slipped past them.
Now it was just Braxx and Sebastian, so far he'd been relatively quiet. Braxx didn't know just how long that would last though. The man clearly wanted to say something, he clearly wanted to break the silence that had fallen between the two of them during the slow march. It was only a matter of time...
Sebastian hardly thought about the presence of the Bolian officer that was steadily leading him through the ship toward whatever assigned quarters he had. The main thought in the back of his mind had been hoping that Starfleet had fulfilled his request to allow him to continue his research. He had little desire to be there other than being close to Lieutenant Miley Kirk. To say that he'd been smitten was an understatement, he desired her and knew she desired him even if she never spoke to him.
She reminded him so much of his now deceased wife, and as such desired her even more. Sebastian hadn't considered replacing his wife, a small part of him still blamed himself for her death. He'd been responsible after all, had he not been so damned ambitious she'd probably still be alive. In fact, he knew she'd still be alive if it weren't for his ambition and his desire to have a child. Now there was only one person in the way of his relationship with Kirk...
Nuri Varrom.
Sebastian needed to get Nuri Varrom to see reason and let the two of them be together instead of her. Besides that, Sebastian had long believed this cross relationship amongst differing species was just disgusting. Humans should only be with humans just like Trill should only be with Trill. He shook his head in disgust at one point, then as his thoughts started to carry him away he brought himself back to reality.
They'd been walking in silence for quite some time, "How much further?" He asked the Warrant Officer. Sebastian had little desire to talk to a Bolian, his ideals simply didn't seem to line up with theirs. Sebastian laughed inwardly as he considered the fact that his ideals didn't seem to align with a lot of people these days.
Braxx knew it would happen, he was simply surprised it hadn't happened sooner. The tone that Braxx detected had come across as very arrogant. That was the only way the Bolian officer could describe it and he was thankful that this would be the only time he'd have to interact with this man. "We're almost there sir," He told the older officer. Braxx felt as if Sebastian was kind of creepy in his own little way.
Sebastian sighed heavily, "All right." The sooner I'm away from this Bolian the sooner I can begin working on ways to separate the Trill from my Miley. He thought to himself. He had little to no desire to speak with the Bolian, these days he barely had any inclination to speak to anyone. Then he was assigned to this god forsaken mission and that's when he was reintroduced to Miley Kirk.
He'd seen her around the diplomatic corps' central headquarters a few times and had become smitten almost immediately. He was simply too nervous to talk to her and so he hid in the shadows, scheming... Plotting... Sebastian assumed that it was perhaps the only good thing that had happened over the last few years. Starfleet Medical simply lacked vision and understanding. It made him desperately angry at them, he wished they'd just drummed him out of Starfleet rather than forcing him to consider his own self imposed exile.
Sebastian could have walked away, he could have simply resigned and he had considered this. Then at least he would be free from the bindings that held him to the ideals that he found himself at odds with. But no, that's not what Margaret would have wanted for him. So, Sebastian stayed in Starfleet hopeful that he'd one day be able to climb back on top instead of just being the lackey of some wayward diplomat on some wayward trip. Though, he was grateful when they sent him with this team.
It had gotten him away from the diplomatic corps headquarters and brought him into direct contact with Miley, his Miley. His thoughts wrestled around with the notion that he needed to do something about Nuri Varrom once more.
Braxx had almost led the Doctor all the way to the quarters when he realized the man had been quiet since asking that question. Perhaps that was far more terrifying than having to have a conversation with him after all. Braxx could see the man seemed to be wrestling around with some dark thoughts, though he couldn't make sense of what they were. Soon they were in front of the quarters and he halted. "Here we are."
Sebastian stepped through the door and looked around. He was utterly disgusted by the look and appeal of them, they simply weren't good enough in his eyes. He looked at the warrant officer and thought about this Esrann or even Nuri Varrom having a better set of quarters than him. Sebastian chose not to address this, "Thanks." He croaked then walked far enough into the room for the door to slide closed.
Braxx watched the Doctor for a moment, "He was dissatisfied Braxx," He mumbled to himself before going back down the corridor. Braxx needed to make sure the other diplomat had found her way to her quarters. They'd be receiving the two diplomatic teams from both the Ferengi and Cardassians, and that one he knew needed extra security.
Lieutenant Commander Sebastian Hayes M.D.
