Sorvatt Prail was born on Cardassia in 2336. When he was old enough he enlisted in the Cardassian Military Academy in 2354. He spent six years there in order to become a Cardassian Engineering Officer. Following the conclusion of his time at the Academy, Sorvatt was assigned to the CDS Imal, a Keldon-class attack cruiser. Over the next five years Sorvatt systematically worked to make himself look as professional as possible.

He steadily climbed through the ranks over those five years while also getting married and having a small family. By 2365 Sorvatt had earned his promotion to Glinn and had remained aboard the CDS Imal as the ship's Executive Officer. Sorvatt continued to grow his family back home all the way until the break out of the Dominion War. Sorvatt saw this as an opportunity not only for himself, but to also bring glory to the Cardassian Union though he had a distrust for the Dominion.

In 2374 during a border skirmish his Commanding Officer was killed and it forced Sorvatt to take command of the ship. He was able to get the vessel back across the border and saved as many lives as he could. This was further rewarded by his promotion to Gul and granted the position of the Commander for the Imal. Toward the end of the Dominion War, he was one of the first to openly oppose the Dominion when the bombing of his homeworld began. One of his children was also seriously injured, though not killed.

Over the next five years Sorvatt was instrumental in the rebuilding efforts of Cardassia while also maintaining his command of the Imal. His ship soon became the flagship for the Second Order and he became the commander in 2380. The next eight years were spent by him improving relations with foreign empires such as the United Federation of Planets and the Ferengi Alliance.
