Mission:
M02 - The Sixteenth Rule
Location: Quarters, USS Hooke
Timeline: Present
Nexa Roiluk had been on board for all of maybe an hour, and in that hour it took her a moment to find the quarters she'd been assigned to. "Okay so after I put away my belongings then I'll go find the ship's Counselor and let her know I'm on board." She mumbled under her breath then she went through the door. Nexa was alone in the room and she breathed a slight sigh of mixed relief. She knew she'd be sharing her quarters, she just didn't know with who.
The room was organized so that there were only two racks inside which was somewhat unusual as she'd shared her room with more than two people in the past. "Different," She muttered and shrugged. Then she heard the door activate behind her and turned around.
Rayne had finally found the quarters she'd been assigned, it took quite a bit of asking the computer for directions before she was inside. She also noticed that she wasn't alone, her expression changed to a slight smile, "Oh hello I'm Rayne Martinez. Are you assigned to this room as well?"
Nexa nodded, "Nexa Roiluk," She told the young woman. "You don't look all that old." She smiled in return.
Rayne had heard that much of her life, "I get that a lot," She said, "I'm only twenty, I've not been in Starfleet for more than a couple years." She looked around the room for a moment. "I'm sure the next thing you'll probably tell me is that I don't look twenty," She took a step further into the room so that her back was to the Betazoid second class. "I get that all the time too."
Nexa grinned, "I wasn't going to say that, but it is true you know." She laughed warmly, "So it looks like it's just the two of us in here." She found that odd, "Typically I'm in a room with more than just one other person, I wonder if others are in that same situation."
Rayne shrugged, "It's a smaller ship with a smaller crew." She answered, "I'm the Captain's Yeoman I already saw the crew manifest. I don't think we're fully crewed honestly," She looked at the two beds on the bulkhead in the corner. "Do you want the top bunk or the bottom?"
"I would prefer the bottom if that's okay with you?" Nexa asked, "I'm not a huge fan of heights."
Rayne looked up at the top bunk and shrugged, she was certainly shorter than what Nexa was. However, Rayne wanted to be accepted by Nexa. "Sure," She replied. Rayne took her belongings and began organizing them, "So what is it that you'll be doing on the ship?" She asked.
Nexa had also began placing her belongings where they were going to go inside the various cubbies and locker. "I'm the Counselor's Aide." She answered. Nexa had noticed space for additional bunks if they needed to place them in the room and she wondered if that meant eventually the two of them would have additional roommates inside their shared quarters. The answer was certainly likely.
"So what do you think of the ship so far?" Nexa asked her.
Rayne shrugged, "I don't know," She answered honestly. This was her second starship, she'd never served on a space station so at least this was all she knew. "The Captain seems pretty nice." She concluded, "So I mean, that's pretty nice." She finished putting all her things away, "I have my own office though it's probably the size of a closet."
Nexa didn't think she had her own office, but she assumed she'd have her own work station in the counselor's office. "Have you been inside it?"
Rayne shook her head, "Not yet." She was being quite honest about that part. "That's the next place I'm going after I've finished putting the rest of my things away. I've never been the direct yeoman for the captain of a ship, so this is all pretty new to me. Apparently, I'm also the only yeoman on board which I think is kind of unusual as well, but I'm pretty new to this so there's that."
Nexa smiled warmly, "The ship isn't that large, and there aren't that many people on board so I suppose that makes sense. I've been a Corpsman much of my career, but psychology has long been an interest of mine so I thought I'd switch to counseling to try it out. At least I'll have something to fall back on if it doesn't work out quite the way I want it to work you know?" The question was rhetorical and she looked at Rayne.
Rayne simply nodded, "I'm guessing that a Corpsman is someone who's enlisted medical?"
"Right," Nexa answered. "I've done that my entire career and gone through two different schools for it, though I've considered eventually commissioning. The process is quite long and slow to go from enlisted to commissioned officer that's why I've not done it yet."
Rayne frowned, "I've never even considered officer." She admitted. Rayne had just wanted to serve in Starfleet and the fastest way to go about that was going to the enlisted training academy. Besides she liked the simplicity of being enlisted versus being an officer. It certainly made her life that much easier, or at least that's how she felt about it anyway. Besides, on board the Hooke the officers and enlisted all ate together and were in much closer proximity to each other anyway.
Rayne had learned the ship only had one mess deck and that the Captain's own private mess went unused, though she didn't know why that was the case. She would have to remember to ask him at a later time, 'I think it's nice when there's little to no separation,' She thought to herself. With the last of her things put away she looked at Nexa, "Hungry?"
Nexa nodded, "It was a long trip," She answered, "And I didn't eat before we left the Cutter,."
Rayne stood all the way up, "Let's go get something to eat then. The crew mess isn't all that far from here," She waited by the door for Nexa and once she was certain the Betazoid woman was following her, she went through the door toward the turbo lift.
